High Plains Drifters was started in 1982 by Jerry Main, Larry Sandefur, and David Hill. In 1984, the Foliage Tour was started with a trip to Canadian, Tx. In 1991, the tour was changed to the last Sunday in October to Palo Duro Canyon. The club joined the Panhandle Council of Car Clubs in 1984. There are presently eleven families in the HPD Club, and we are responsible for the February Cruise Night on the first Saturday of the month at Region 16 parking lot on Bell and Hillside in Amarillo.

The High Plains Thunderbirds came into being in the spring of 2002 as a result of a dream of one man, Lon O’Connell, who wanted to share his love of the Ford Thunderbird with others. Seeing the promotions for the new ’02 Thunderbirds in the Spring of 2001, Lon ordered an Inspiration Yellow Thunderbird. His car was one of the first to arrive by rail in Amarillo in August 16, 2001 but with a factory hold. After a factory cooling fan repair, his car was re-delivered October 9, 2001.

The "Texas Panhandle Mustang Club" is made up of members who enjoy not only Mustangs but other cars as well. Our members range from those who have old Mustangs to those who have the new Mustangs. Some have more than one!!!!!
We meet once a month, usually the third Thursday of the month at a local restaurant. At this meeting, we discuss upcoming car shows, information from the Panhandle Council of Car Clubs, local interest items and any other things that members want to talk about- car related that is! What's great about the club is that we are all friendly folks who have many interests in cars and experience levels. Some build cars and trucks and some just buy new ones and don't make any modifications! Whatever your level, we want YOU!
